Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs Help with Diabetes Management
Chinese medicine has been treating diabetes for millennia and calls it “Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome” due to the common symptoms of weight loss and excessive thirst that often develop. Many people living with diabetes, either with Type 1 or Type 2, have many concerns about potential long-term damage and what they can do to help lower their risks of this.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs treat diabetes by supporting you systemically and supplementing the systems that are struggling to manage. There are many herbs in Chinese Herbology that have been proven in Western research to lower blood glucose levels and there are a few can even restore ‘some’ pancreatic function by increasing insulin beta cells to a degree. Other herbs aid in reducing the hypertension that often accompanies diabetes. Electrical stimulation stimulates the nerves and increases blood circulation, thus it can help with peripheral neuropathy.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can assist your diabetes management by:
- Helping to lower blood glucose levels
- Helping to lower blood pressure
- Lowering stress and tension
- Electrical stimulation may help with peripheral neuropathy
- Easing gastric upset caused by some oral meds (Metformin, etc)
Chinese medicine works wonderfully in conjunction with Western medical care. Acupuncture and herbs are NOT a replacement for Western medicines and/or insulin. All Western medicines should continue to be taken along with the Acupuncture treatments.
Personally I am a diabetic. Although I know from experience that this is a lifelong condition to learn to live with, I also am adamant that no one has to settle for mediocre survival while living with diabetes. We can and will thrive vibrantly if we choose to step up, grasp the tools available to us, and embrace this opportunity.
